The Good Morning Checklist Adventure

This morning was our first time using our new, laminated checklists. It went pretty well overall. We got distracted from them 2 or 3 times, but we did eventually check every item off, and having all this stuff done (mostly) first thing in the morning did make the rest of the day go much more smoothly. Here is our current version of the list:
  • Put on Glasses (Sammy only)
  • Use Potty & Get Clean Diaper
  • Good Morning Prayer
  • Help Unload Dishwasher
  • Help Cook Breakfast
  • Bless Food
  • Eat Breakfast & Take Vitamins
  • Put dirty dishes in dishwasher
  • Get dressed
  • Brush teeth
  • Brush Hair
  • Wash Face & Hands

I love it! Is Katie showing any interest at all though, or just Sammy? And if just Sammy, let me know the second Katie starts understanding, so I can get my kid checklisting.

Katie was very miffed when I handed Sammy his checklist and she didn't have one. (Hers was still in the laminator.) Basically she wants to have one in her hands when Sammy does. And she likes to scribble all over it with a crayon, just because she likes to scribble all over anything she can scribble on, with anything that scribbles! I'm not sure she's really into checking off things yet. (Maybe just a little, though. Like that's 5% of the thrill for her.)

There's no reason you couldn't start him with a very short list, say 3-5 items. Make it of clip art or hand drawn pictures instead of (or in addition to) words, try it with him, and if he doesn't take to it, put it away for a month and then try again. (You prob. already know this but I'll say it anyway...) He might be a lot more interested in having his own if you have a physical checklist that he sees you checking off.

I "know" it regarding my own checklist, but honestly, it would have never occurred to me to let him see me do it had you not conveniently pointed it out. Brilliant!

Yeah, there are lots of things I know in theory that I forget, or don't realize, to apply with my kiddos. Monkey see, monkey do could never be one of them, though, as Sammy often MUST do what Mama is doing. Even housework. And especially computer! ;)

Blog sometime about how it's going when he starts taking to(or completely ignoring ;) the checklist.
